A State-of-the-Art Review: AI-Driven Service Level Agreements in Event-Based Architectures

Abstract

Event-based Systems (EBS) manage complex network environments such as smart ports and smart cities, allowing for real-time responses to dynamic demands. Since EBSs are designed to react to pre-defined scenarios, their ability to deal with new or unknown situations is limited, which can lead to suboptimal outcomes. This paper explores the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into event-based architectures to create a more adaptive, predictive intelligent system. Through a literature review of key domains – traffic management, autonomous vehicles, container management, emergency response – we identify opportunities where AI can strengthen decision making in event-based architectures. We find that the safety domain offers the greatest scope for adoption across smart environments, where accidents can result in serious con-
sequences to human life. The adoption of an event-based architecture integrated with AI also offers benefits through the potential for predictive analysis, automation, and real-time decision-making.
