Abstract
This article highlights the harms caused to women by incarceration. Based on the findings of the authors' primary research with prisoners in Ash House, a women's unit in a male young offender centre at Hydebank Wood, the article concludes that although women show resiliance and resistance, the punitive and abusive nature of the regime impacted strongly on their agency.
