Abstract

SUSTAINABLE URBANISM: History, Economic-Environmental Knowledge, and Professional Practice

The relationship between urban renewal, socio-economic modernization and the revitalization of declining central areas, and the creation of better conditions for alternative transport gained great importance in the first decade of the new millennium. This also required new professional training to study, coordinate and integrate the problems and strategies leading to the resolution of those issues, which until then had little recognition at the university level. This book explains some of these relationships using the author's educational and professional experience in Portugal, the United States, and Macau.
