Abstract
This lecture, workshop and exhibition on the value of drawing and sketching was for the OUT of PLACE Urban Design Summer School -part of a month long group of activities by PLACE ( Centre for architecture and the Built Environment) which for August 2012 was relocated to a Belfast riverside location in the OBEL building ( Ireland's tallest building)This brought a number of speakers together to consider creativity and awareness of the built environment. The exhibition installation on sketchbooks was on display as a background to the talks and events. Specifically new work (unseen before) was on display such as that of FAB ( Forum for an Alternative Belfast)- who were displaying their research drawings and sketchbooks as well as the award winning practice Hall McKnight who recently completed the MAC building. This collection of work showed the working practice and relevance of the sketchbook to creative practice in architecture. As well as the lecture and exhibition there was a workshop with local architect MIchael Doherty on drawing.
