Abstract

In this paper, I analyse the transmission of the work Caithréim Conghail through its three known witnesses. Using novel methods from material philology and codicology in addition to linguistic and stylistic analysis to examine the relationship between the three texts, I seek to establish (a) what each of the texts can tell us about the milieu in which they were written, and (b) how the work’s evolution is indicative of the broader development of Irish/Gaelic prose tales.
