Abstract
The status of the Irish freshwater fish fauna is reviewed. Of the 25 Irish species, 11 are introduced and five are considered as endangered or vulnerable. Agriculture through eutrophication, farm wastes and overgrazing, and afforestation and introductions are the main threats to the native fauna.
