Abstract

This chapter is based on primary research conducted by Dr Linda Moore and Professor into the incarceration of women and girls in the north of Ireland. The chapter is based on primary research conducted in Mourne House women's unit in Maghaberry Prison and includes case studies of the deaths of two women in custody. The chapter makes an argument for an independent, public inquiry into the situation that existed in Mourne House.
