Abstract

This paper examines the development of religious heritage tourism within Northern Ireland. Through the views of stakeholders the paper seeks to assess levels of demand and supply, the potential economic benefit this type of tourism opportunity provides and the practical realities of creating an stakeholder environment where high levels of collaboration exist. The findings of the study revealed a high level of cooperation exists within the industry, though the roles each sector can play need to be clearer. There is perhaps too much focus around the story of St Patrick, but that said it demonstrates potential for regional development to occur around that focus.
