Abstract

Key points presentation:
• Pacing is not a fully innate ability, but instead is more alike a skill which has to be acquired over time through the gathering of exercise experience.
• Pacing behavior develops during childhood and adolescence.
• The development of pre-frontal cortical related (meta-) cognitive functions are hypothesized to be underlying mechanisms of this development in pacing behavior.
