    Abstract

    Using material from the British and Irish national archives the article considers a neglected dimension of Anglo-Irish relations: the often conflicting approaches of the British and Irish governments to the security problems arising from the IRA's exploitation of the land frontier between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
