Abstract
The Pathway Opportunity Programme (POP) is a QUB Widening Participation initiative aimed at supporting students from backgrounds that are less likely to participate in higher education. It was first piloted in the School of Biological Sciences in 2017 and has continued ever since, aiming to prepare students both academically and socially for university life with a range of engaging learning opportunities and team work activities. Designing such a programme proved challenging in encompassing all School content, but also reaped rewards in recruitment, retention and satisfaction.
