Abstract
'The Beat Goes On' is a 5min 360° Virtual Reality (VR) film and multi-media exhibition featuring original poetry and music written and performed by artist Jim Deeds and his two sons, who are also musicians. Filmed in-studio and on location, the film blends 360° VR technology with musical performance and 2D images of Jim's childhood and family life. The combination of 'old' and 'new' technology reflects the theme of the 'nothing is new' expressed in the poem and original musical composition. The inclusion of Jim's son's in the musical performance reflects the continuation of 'new' and 'old' creative and cultural practices. The accompanying exhibition features 'de-constructed' elements from the film including the 2D images and material objects that reflect Jim's cultural experience of growing up in Belfast.
