Abstract

The aim of this paper is to explore the role and contribution of new information communication technologies in the emerging field of knowledge management (KM). There is much confusion in the literature, and in organizations, as to what role technology has within the field of KM. This quandary has led to the danger that organizations could spend large amounts of time, money and other resources on inappropriate technology in support of their KM efforts. The paper presents the classification of KM technology tools under the headings of collaboration,content management and business intelligence. This paper also seeks to clarify how KM technologies have been applied in organizations in recent years . Overall, the paper presents an overview of current literature and practical technological adoption and application in the KM field.
