Abstract

This report assesses the Household Characteristics, Utility and Potential of Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Electricity Generation from Residential Property Rooftops in Northern Ireland. This research utilises a database of PV installations at Super Output Area Level coupled with an extensive GIS analysis to examine the characteristics of current Solar PV adopters. The study also employs GIS analysis to determine the potential for PV residential electricity generation in the province, if the technology was to be widely adopted and examines the utility of PV to households. The study via the examination of case study households finds that those properties with PV installed have a reduction of 30% in electricity imported from the grid, compared to their pre installation electricity usage. In view of recent electricity price rises this is a significant saving.
