Abstract

Following Culture Ireland and Crafts Council of Ireland Funding 13 Irish Artists responded to the experience of working in Fuping in 2011 (creating the collection for the Irish Ceramics Pavilion there) by creating a response body of work. This led to the group Exhibition 'Bricks in the Rain' curated by Hilary Morley. it has travelled from the Farmleigh Gallery 2012, Dublin, to Culture Box, Dublin to celebrate the Chinese New Year, in 2013, to the Wandsford Gallery, Cork, 2013'Ring Form' and 'Double Walled Form' were created as a direct response to the experience. These works explore the question of experiencing the multi layers of Chinese culture. The layers of colour, industry, noise and heat in a continuous cycle of layers, meaning and interpretations. 'Made in China' Film by Andrew Standen Raz documents the experiences of working in China and is screened at all venues hosting 'Bricks in the Rain'.
