Report of the IFPP Online and Remote Working Group

Abstract

Ms Pauline Clancy, Dr Noreen Giffney and Ms Janet Healy agreed to form an Online and Remote Working Group at the Annual General Meeting of the Irish Forum for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy's (IFPP) in 2021. The Working Group was tasked with exploring the clinical, ethical, legal, and technical benefits and challenges of offering Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy to patients online and by telephone, as well as in geographical locations other than Ireland. The Working Group submitted their commissioned report, including recommendations and suggested online resources and reading materials, to the IFPP Executive Committee on Friday 6 May 2022. The report was considered by the IFPP Executive Committee and has been forwarded for discussion by the Psychoanalytic Section of the Irish Council for Psychotherapy (ICP). The Irish Council for Psychotherapy (ICP) oversees standards of clinical training and accredits Psychotherapists working in Ireland.
