Abstract

This short film is designed as an educational intervention targeting the most vulnerable groups open to persuasion to join the paramilitaries in Northern Ireland. The film is screen in closed Facebook groups and discussed in youth groups in areas where police intelligence has identified a recent rise in recruitment to these proscribed organisations. Areas such as Strabane, Portadown, Lurgan, West Belfast, Lurgan and Derry/Londonderry. Funded by the Department of Justice and produced in association with The Playhouse, Pillarpix Media and Island Hill Productions. Written by award-winning screenwriter Colin Bateman. The film is directed by Declan Keeney and stars Shane Todd. 'Recruited' is a fictional hard-hitting live-action drama exploring the continuing issues of paramilitarism in Northern Irish society. The film premiered at the Belfast Film Festival in April 2018.
