Natural Carotenoids: Weapon Against Life-Style-Related Disorders

Abstract

Carotenoids have gained consumer interest because of their unique biological
functions to promote human health. They belong to a group of isoprenoid
pigments with abundance in nature. These pigments play a fundamental role
qualitative specification of both fruits and vegetables. Coloring property of these
pigments provide an appealing character to foods. Their biological properties
allow them to develop a variety of commercialized products. Such properties
involve these pigments in nutraceutical industry to cure life style related disorders,
including cardiovascular diseases, cancer, photosensitivity disorders and immunesensitivity. This review discusses the biological properties and role of carotenoids
towards prevention and protection from life style related disorders. Yet there are
several research gaps to find out the exact dozes for particular diseases.
