Abstract

Environmental pollution has a detrimental effect on human health. Short- and long-term exposure to harmful pollutants can lead to serious ailments and incurable diseases. Consequently, it is necessary to manage the environmental contaminants to mitigate or even eliminate the deleterious effects to living beings. Nanotechnology field can contribute to offering innovative tools to deal with these substances in an efficient and sustainable manner. This chapter deals with various aspects of nanotechnology in bioremediation as a biogenic synthesis of nanomaterials, the innovative technological approach of nanomaterials in abatement of pollution, application of microbial-based nanoremediation of xenobiotics, pesticide residues, and metal toxicity, and prospects of nanobioremediation.
