Mutual mentoring: unlocking of positive psychological capital for both students and business leaders in a covid context

Research output: Contribution to conferenceAbstractpeer-review

Abstract

It is suggested that individuals who have positive well-being and resilience are more likely to reach their potential and to make a wider contribution to society (World Health Organisation, 2020). However, understanding mechanisms which can aid students positive wellbeing and resilience still remains something of a black box. In this research, we explore whether mutual mentoring relationships between students and business leaders can lead to positive psychological capital and in so doing help build confidence and inculcate a stronger sense of self determination and resilience.

We draw on Luthan at al. (2004) concept of psychological capital, which has been found to underpin well-being and resilience. Whilst it is widely acknowledged that economic capital, human capital and social capital are fundamental to business success, we argue that developing psychological capital may help tackle challenges relating to student wellbeing at the micro level. This could consequently lead to greater resilience and wellbeing.
