Abstract

Midnight Feast is a painting (90x75 cm oil on canvas 2022) which was purchased for the UK Gov Art collection in 2024 through the Art X-UK project. The project aims to expand the government's art collection through important purchases of regional art which are then displayed in UK embassy buildings world-wide. Midnight Feast was selected by a panel of industry experts including Maria Belshaw, CBE (Director of Tate). The collection notes on the painting state: 'Partly born out of a sense that much Northern Irish conflict art is highly masculine, often militaristic in its depiction of everyday life amid conflict, Wallace’s painting presents a radically different view of this historical period. What emerges is a vision shaped by her own memories, that is wistfully nostalgic but also deeply menacing.'
