Metaphorically teaching...

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaperpeer-review

Abstract

This conceptual paper presents an updated educational model for the development of critical and creative thinking skills in hospitality and tourism students through the use of horror based metaphors. Developing critical thinking skills in the future leaders of the industry has now become essential as the hospitality and tourism industry faces ‘wicked problems’, that is problems with no easy solutions but which leave the industry vulnerable to destruction. It is argued that metaphors enable understanding and encourage reflective thinking (Morgan, 1998; Ivie 1996) and in doing so develop those essential critical thinking skills.
