Media Capture and Erosion of News Reporting in Turkey: The Dawn of the Age of Post-Truth Politics

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

Turkish media has been showing illiberal symptoms of an increasingly competitive-
authoritarian Turkish government intensified especially post-2016
failed coup attempt.1 As various scholars pointed out, media instrumentalization,
erosion of news values and mediatization of politics created a journalistic
vacuum. Turkey now has a new media system, one that is captured and
with a restructured superstructure by the governing Justice and Development
Party (A.K.P.).
