Abstract
The 'mater-morphosis' drawing series consists of 12 pencil on paper works that explore the idea of maternal identity and domestic claustrophobia. The series was created in response to Bracha Ettinger's theory of matrixial borderspaces and uses the motifs and iconography of the domestic nursery to re-examine claustrophobia/agoraphobia and hysteria. Works from the series were selected for exhibition by the curator Phong Bui (curatorial advisor to PS1, NYC) for the Soho20 gallery New York in 2010. Other works were selected for the Rua Red gallery, Dublin in 2010 by the curator Caoimhin Corrigan (Curator for Ireland at the 53rd Venice Biennale). There was also a solo show of the series in the Enniskillen Visual Arts Festival 2010 alongside artists including Susan McWilliams.
