Abstract

The first of two editorials as an invited guest editor for DRTP on the nature of notebooks and sketchbooks across different creative disciplines. Peer reviewing, paper selection and compilation of international research papers. Introductory essay discusses the history and nature of notebooks such as their operational methods and structures and how different disciplines such as geographers, scientists, writers, artists, archeologists, and architects use them in 'the field' and in their practice with specific commentary on each research paper. The level of interest and submissions brought a wide body of research that has lead to a special double issue of the journal. DRTP Volume 11 part 2 which is in production.

This peer-reviewed publication represents drawing as a significant discipline in its own right and in a diversity of forms: as an experimental practice, as research, as representation and/or documentation, as historical and/or theoretical exploration, as process or as performance.
