Abstract
An investigation into Voltaire use of the English language in his philosophical tales. I argue that his practice, especially in his later years, of using English terms and, on occasion, of inventing English names for his characters, not only shows his admiration of British culture and religious institutions but also illustrates nostalgia for the time, many years earlier, when he spent two and a half years in exile in England.
