Abstract

This project was received a high commendation in the Architecture Awards of the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland. It was selected through a peer-review assessment process conduced by an esteemed jury consisting of architects, academics, and critics, of international standing. This project explored methods of re-orientating the life of households around small scale urban gardening, maximising it as a resource for home food production and celebrating the social activities of gardening, outdoor living, and cooking. This investigation was set in the context of the extension and re-organisation of the typical of 1950s semi-detached house typology, which generally has poor visual and physical relationships between living and exterior outdoor spaces.
