Keynote: No Place Like Home Symposium

Research output: Contribution to conferenceOther

Abstract

This keynote talk opened the symposium at Photo Museum Ireland accompanying the No Place Like Home exhibition. The talk outlined key ideas in my research about home and presented the arguments from my forthcoming book Subversive Mothers, Disturbing Domesticity.

The keynote was followed by panel discussions. These were on home and family, with me, Ciarán Óg Arnold, Niamh Crowley, Shannon Ritchie and Ciaran Dunbar; migration and displacement with Anthony Haughey, Vera Ryklova, and Tatiana Evonuk; and institutions and housing with Joanne Mullin, Jamin Keogh, Niamh Smith, Luke Ryan, Caleb Daly & participants from STILL SOMEBODY – Voices for Change.

The exhibition included work from my series Domestic Drift amongst other artists looking at themes within home. These included family, homelessness, queer families, sectarianism, mother-and-baby homes, domestic abuse and housing.
