N2 - The digitalisation of contemporary drawing advances major changes of practice in art, design, craft and architecture. As hand-skills in drawing and craft share performative acts of making, is significant to evaluate the influence of emerging technologies on craft-making processes which start with drawing as a method of form-giving in object-production. As such, the focus of this research component is on drawing as a digital equivalent process of form-making. The study, developed during the FabLab/ Made@EU Programme at Plymouth College of Art (2016) asserts that the making of form is embodied in the physicality of the act of drawing. Developed from self-3D scanning and captured by ‘Sense’ programme, drawings become experiments in form-generation through digital visualisation. The drawings exhibited as part of the Jerwood drawing Prize Exhibition are fragments of transitional objects – their surfaces arrested at a particular time in the movement of form-giving. They bring together physical and virtual materials, overlapping formats of exploration, aiming to extend form-making toward digital technologies (computation and manufacturing across craft and design). In this view these digital sketches challenge the lexicon and morphology of contemporary digital drawing, highlighting its impact on digital crafts. Jerwood Drawing Prize and Exhibition has established a reputation for its commitment to championing excellence, and to promoting and celebrating the breadth of contemporary drawing practice. The exhibition is selected from original drawings submitted from all over U.K.; it provides a platform to showcase the work of UK-based drawing practitioners, helping to define a wider understanding of the role and value of drawing in creative practice.Jerwood Drawing Prize – Touring Exhibition • Jerwood Visual Arts, Jerwood Space, London (14.09.2016 – 23.10.2016)• The Edge Gallery, University of Bath (04.11.2016 – 16.12.2016) • The Turnpike, Leigh (14.01.2017 -11.03.2017) • The Gallery, Arts University, Bournemouth (30.03.2017 – 27.04.2017)
