Abstract
The paper discusses various theories of origins current among various nations in medieval Europe, and in 12th century Ireland in particular. The focus is on the extent of classical influences on such theory and the place that classical learning had taken in the framework of the Lebor Gabala 'The book of invasions', the vernacular Irish compilation on the topic.
