Abstract
The Old Irish tale, Immram Brain (The voyage of Bran), describes a sea journey to the Irish Otherworld in the form of an earthly paradise. It belongs to a genre of early Irish voyage tales which developed from the religious practice of pilgrimage. The tale is mainly in verse with some prose sections and describes the adventures of the Irish hero Bran and his companions. There are strong Christian elements in the tale along with traditional Irish mythological elements.
