Abstract

A Durational Performance Art Work/ ‘Install-action’, as part of the ‘Accumulator’ Performance Event and Multi-Media Exhibition, as part of the Opening Exhibitions of the Visual Centre for Contemporary Art, County Carlow, Ireland. Curated by Amanda Coogan. The Performance Artwork took place on Saturday 21st. November 2009. The Exhibition/Project ran for two Months, within the ‘Digital Gallery’.(Other Performing/Exhibiting Artists within the ‘Accumulator’ Event were: Amanda Coogan, Neva Elliott, Declan Rooney, Yingmei Duan, and Alasatir Mac Lennan.)I and five other artist was invited to participate and create new performance artworks within the ‘Accumulator’ a ‘Performance Art Exhibition’ in the ‘Digital Gallery’ and as part of the Opening Exhibitions of the new Visual Centre for Contemporary Art, County Carlow, Ireland. Each artist was asked to make new performance artworks in response to the installation & detritus of the last artist, The resulting Installations were exhibited until the next artist performed and changed the space. The Accumulator Performance Exhibition was Curated by Amanda Coogan who also opened the sequence of Performance Installations within the space. Other Performing/Exhibiting Artists within the ‘Accumulator’ Event were: Neva Elliott, Declan Rooney, Yingmei Duan, and Alasatir Mac Lennan, who was also the last to perform and exhibit. I and each of the artists (except Amanda Coogan), were asked to respond to the exhibition space, as they found it, after the previous artist had left it. Each artist therefore had to respond creatively to the last artist’s work and make material and spatial choices prior to working in the gallery themselves. This was the first time such an exhibition has been seen in Ireland and as such was an ambitious exhibition for the Visual Centre for Contemporary Art to host. The Accumulator Performance Exhibition project broke new ground in relation to incorporating performance art activity within the Gallery System in Ireland. This was achieved through the concept for the event/exhibition, which saw a chain of rigorous actions/performances leading to a unique and changing exhibition format and outcome. Each of the Performance Artworks/Installations was recorded on DVD and this documentation was screened within the gallery. The limited edition of 15 “Accumulator” DVD’s also stand alone as edited documents of the project/exhibition.The ‘Accumulator Performance Exhibition’ was also documented in an Essay by Amanda Coogan within “Visual”, Centre for Contemporary Art & George Bernard Shaw Theatre Inaugural Exhibitions Catalogue, Accumulator Project Curated by Amanda Coogan.
