Hiatus from Old Irish to Modern Scottish Gaelic, Irish and Manx

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Hiatus, or diaeresis, refers to two vowel sounds in adjacent syllables. In addition to highlighting the survival of hiatus from Old Irish texts into Scottish Gaelic, vis-à-vis its absence in Manx and Modern Irish, a further major consideration of the current paper will be an analysis of the percentage survival rate of Old Irish hiatus in modern Scottish Gaelic dialects
