Abstract
The exhibition includes samples of applied research from the Future Island-Island project team (named creators), however, represents only a sample of the wider work across a broad team delivering five work packages in phase 1. The featured research includes (1) the Beach clean 2.0 process and prototypes including circular plastics samples (2) Repair culture and oral histories (3) circular wool demonstrators including 16mm wool rope for kelp seeding and fishing, natural dye samples and a Geansaí design (4) digital island assets from scanned data.
Future Observatory Website summary:
Tools for Transition presents four Green Transition Ecosystem research projects from across the UK that demonstrate how design is driving these changes. Based in Scotland, Rathlin Island (Northern Ireland), Ynys Môn (North Wales), Bristol and Swansea, these projects show how scalable, design-led research can be translated into practical tools for transitioning to a greener future. Tools for Transition is curated by Future Observatory, the Design Museum’s national research programme for the green transition. Future Observatory is coordinated by the Design Museum in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
