Abstract

This was a lecture and panel debate for 'The Building On – Mackintosh Symposium' which was part of the Scotland+Venice contribution to the International Venice Architectural Biennale of 2014 at the Querini Stampali. The presentation addressed the symbolic and material qualities inherent in the design and construction of the destroyed library and explored this space within the larger context of the Glasgow School of Art building and that of Mackintosh's work in general. Specific reference was made to my earlier research study of the Library and the process of drawing as research methodology.
