Abstract
This article looks at the British fashion designer Paul Smith as a photographer. It considers the influence of photography on Smith's approach to fashion and textile design; his collecting and curating of photography; and his own photography as well as that of his father, Harold Smith, an accomplished amateur photographer. It also looks at Smith's work with various photographers - David Bailey, Julian Broad, Hugh Hales-Tooke, Sandro Sodano, Mario Testino, Anton Corbijn and Viviane Sassen.
