Abstract
This commissioned article was written during the 2020 lockdown to record the impact on fashion photography of new social media technologies (FaceTime; WhatsApp; etc.) that started to permeate high fashion advertising campaigns as well as magazine editorials and the all-important covers during the 2020 global lockdown. Fashion photography is a genre, many feel, that is unlikely to survive the pandemic intact. This article offers an overview of this and includes discussion of the work of the photographers Annie Leibowitz, Lachlan Bailey, Jackie Nickerson, Amanda Demme, Irving Penn, Ferry van der Nat, Pierre-Ange Carlotti, Brianna Capozzi, Ryan McGinley and Willy Vanderperre.
