Abstract
Abstract
This working paper, part of a larger PhD project, explores how innovation intermediaries develop internal capabilities to support clients in rural-peripheral regions of Northern Ireland. Through qualitative analysis of 30 in-depth interviews with key stakeholders, the study identifies two core themes contributing to capability development i.e. organizational knowledge and advisor-client relationships. Organizational knowledge encompasses individual learning mechanisms, advisor skillsets, innovation ecosystem awareness, and organizational practices. The study is a larger part of a PhD project and in its current form discusses findings from one of the core theme identified i.e. Organisational knowledge. The paper presents a conceptual framework and discusses the initial findings in the form of first core theme identified through data analysis i.e. Organisational Knowledge and discusses how innovation intermediaries accumulate expertise, tailor services, and evolve their capabilities through interactions with clients and regional dynamics. This ongoing research aims to fill a gap in understanding how intermediaries adopt knowledge-based practices to develop their internal capabilities while engaging and supporting their clients. The findings have implications for policymakers designing support programs and for practitioners seeking to enhance their organizations' internal capabilities and effectiveness within regional innovation systems.
