Abstract

New technological developments are shaping alternativeforms of healthcare provision in the home.We consider the problem of assisting elderly peopleand their carers during the night to reduce theoccurrence, and potential side effects, of accidentssuffered by vulnerable people. The ambient assistance provided will assumeminimal expectations on the technology peoplehave to interact with. The technological solutionconsiders the inclusion of night vision whichprovides features assessed by an algorithm basedon the notions of causality and spatio-temporalreasoning. The system alerts, explains to, andadvises carers, assessing situations, anticipatingproblems, and has potential to enhance home careprovision.
