Abstract
Poster Summary:
Incivility among nurses can significantly affect wellbeing, team cohesion, and, ultimately, patient care. Evidence indicates that newly registered nurses are particularly vulnerable to such behaviours (Anusiewicz et al., 2020; Gillespie et al., 2024).
Methods:
This project, undertaken within the Western Health and Social Care Trust (WHSCT), aimed to explore the types of incivility experienced by nurses using a questionnaire based on Fleming and Sutherland’s (2011) Framework, which reflects commonly reported forms of bullying within nursing.
Findings informed the design of targeted workshops to support nurses in recognising bullying behaviours, developing confidence to intervene, and raising concerns safely. The workshops also provided a forum for stakeholder discussions on future education and resource development.
Future Impact:
The next phase involves the creation of an online-learning package for all registered nurses and midwives across the WHSCT. This initiative promotes dignity, psychological safety, inclusion, and effective leadership - foundations for delivering kind and inclusive care.
