Abstract
Contribution as project organisational panel with Doris Rohr and Moira McIver. Also as Speaker and panel member. This Symposium brought together artists and designers from a wide range of disciplines to illustrate and discuss how they approach the world of drawing. Why do we draw? Does a photographer draw with light, an artist with concepts and an architect with material? Does a book provide a unique medium for drawing amidst our frenetic digital times? Are blogs, Pinterest, Instagram and Facebook a legitimate modern-day alternative? A panel of practitioners probed and questioned the value of drawing and considered how their passion for this old but enduring way of recording their world still has its place in our fast-moving electronic age?The presentations were followed by a 'Show & Tell'—a series of short presentations by invited students from a number of different fields, describing how and why they use drawing in their practice, taking us on an exclusive tour of their world of drawing. The event concluded with an 'Open Table'— for people to bring along their own drawings and sketchbooks.Panel members:Robert Peters, printmaker (chair). Paul Clarke, architect. Marion Khorshirdian, librarian. Alastair MacLennan, performance artist. Moira McIver, film/video artist. Dr Amanda McKittrick, photographer. Doris Rohr, artist.
