Domestic Drift in Now and Then: 40 Years of Northern Irish Photography at Belfast Exposed Gallery

Research output: Non-textual formExhibition

Abstract

A selection of works from Domestic Drift was shown in Belfast Exposed Gallery's final exhibition marking 40 years of Northern Irish photography. The exhibition represented different generations of photographers including Ulster University/Belfast School of Art staff Prof Paul Seawright, Dr Clare Gallagher and Dr Frederic Huska with graduates of the photography department. The curator Dr Jose Neves identified three key themes across 40 years of Northern Irish work: Home, Place and Traces.

Domestic Drift
is concerned with everyday life - the ordinary activities, states of mind and conditions of existence that fill time outside the moments of drama and spectacle. It examines the sense of ordinariness inherent in the repetitive, habitual work of home while trying to appreciate the experience as simultaneously mundane and precious.
