Abstract

For the first time, all existing original documents relating to the trial of the nine Islandmagee 'witches' have been collated, transcribed, annotated and introduced by leading experts. These documents (depositions, a pamphlet account, newspaper reports, letters) are extremely rare in the study of Irish witchcraft and provide a unique insight into what was the last witchcraft trial in Ireland held under the Witchcraft Act of 1586. This transcription project was funded by a Research Impact Award from Ulster University to Dr Andrew Sneddon.

The documents are introduced by Dr Sneddon and transcription and annotation work was completed by Dr Shannon Devlin and Dr Sneddon.
