Abstract
Violence is a critical problem for the future of human societies. Following the work of Rene Girard it is clear that it emerges in the context of human rivalries and escalates beyond a point of control.Peace cannot be bought simply by rearranging the instruments of power. Northern IReland is an important possibility for learning, precisely because of its international irrelevance.
