Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a majorrisk factorfor stroke. Concerns havebeen raised that adults with acute stroke, irrespective of whether ornotthey have a history of diabetes mellitus, are atincreased risk ofexperiencing hyperglycaemia and hypoglycaemia. Hyperglycaemia isassociated with severe stroke and poor clinical outcomes,therefore bloodglucose monitoring and management are essential skills for healthcareprofessionals caring for patients who have had a stroke.
