Abstract
Adhesive backings play an important role in both the mechanical and electrical performance of an electrode for a given monitoring application. The relative advantages and disadvantages of the various backings commonly used are presented. The use of different backing sizes, shapes and adhesives is discussed. The electrode requirements for various monitoring applications are specified and suitable electrode designs suggested.
