Abstract

Archie's Caves is a puzzle platform game inspired by the history of the Marble Arch Caves in Enniskillen. The game is a prototype funded by The Arts Council and DCAL addressing new ways to use mobile based video games to explore history, engage visitors and promote tourism. The game tells the story of Archie; the grandson of one of the famous Yorkshire Ramblers. The Ramblers ventured to the caves every summer in the 1940s to plot the caverns and extend Martel's original exploration. Archie, following in is grandfathers footsteps sets out to explore the caves and the magic that lays under the hills of Fermanagh. Players can unlock additional audio and history by playing the game onsite at Marble Arch Caves Geo Park and is designed to extend the visitors experience and memory of their visit while they are travelling to and from the site.
