Abstract
Ken Grant's introduction to Noel Bowler's Monograph 'union' is an examination of the role played by inanimate 'interiors' photography in contemporary practice. By examining its trajectory from early 20th Century work to the present, the research cites Bowler's work in context with leading female photographers who have chosen to use an oblique and remote language to discuss urgent and immediate political issues.
