Abstract
5G has transformed a diverse range of industries, enabling fast-paced healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing, and transportation advancements. Its ultra-high speed, low latency, and massive device connectivity have accelerated significant growth. However, its potential remains largely unexplored in creative industries, a sector vital to human experience and a significant contributor to the country’s economic growth. Integrating 5G into remote virtual production can revolutionize workflows in the media and entertainment sector by offering faster and more flexible solutions. This study explores the deployment of 5G to facilitate real-time, multi-site collaboration in virtual production, enhancing creative workflows. This study highlights the broader implications of 5G integration on improving efficiency in content creation, particularly in streamlining production processes, enhancing real-time collaboration, and optimizing data management. The study concludes that the integration of 5G empowers creative industries to foster innovative solutions for delivering content in real-time across multiple sites in more sustainable, cost-effective, and time-efficient ways. In addition, the performance is evaluated using a representative virtual production use case comprising a 3D scene with a virtual LED wall displaying a waterfall environment, a motion-captured character, and a remotely controllable virtual camera. Experimental results demonstrate that 5G provides improved reliability, lower latency, and enhanced visual quality compared to 4G, making it a more suitable platform for remote virtual production applications.
