Strengthening Sustainable Community Pharmacy Practices in Ghana: Behavioural Determinants and Capacity-Building for Greener Healthcare

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

Supporting greener pharmacy practices contributes to broader Net Zero and climate resilience goals by reducing waste, optimising resource use, and limiting harmful emissions across the medicines supply chain. This aligns closely with the UK’s Net Zero ambitions and REF priorities on demonstrating research impact on climate action through sustainable healthcare innovation. This collaboration is in partnership with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana and the Community Pharmacy Practice Association of Ghana, ensuring alignment with national priorities and direct engagement with frontline pharmacy practitioners. Their involvement will support equitable co-production, sector-wide relevance, and pathways to real-world implementation. This project aims to strengthen sustainable community pharmacy practices in Ghana by examining the behavioural determinants that influence the adoption of greener practices and by co-developing a capacity-building roadmap with Ghanaian partners. The initiative supports the development of an enduring collaborative network between Ulster University and Ghanaian institutions to underpin future ISPF and Global Health research proposals. The work directly aligns with ISPF’s themes: Resilient Planet, Healthy People, Animals and Plants, and Tomorrow’s Talent.
